Montanas Pull Even With Northridge
Brian Ah Yat passed for 261 yards and two touchdowns Saturday, and Montana did its part to set up a dramatic final weekend in the Big Sky Conference by defeating Cal State Sacramento, 31-16, at Sacramento.
Montana (7-3, 5-2 in conference play) is tied for the conference lead with Cal State Northridge and Montana State.
Montana State plays at Montana and Northridge visits last-place Idaho State next Saturday.
Ah Yat completed 18 of 33 passes, including touchdowns of 12 and 59 yards to Jeremy Watkins.
Charles Roberts had 176 yards in 43 carries and a 16-yard scoring run for Sacramento (5-6, 3-5).
Montana State 66, Idaho State 35--Rob Compson threw five touchdown passes and the Bobcats remained in contention for their first conference championship in 14 years by trouncing the Bengals at Bozeman, Mont.
The last time Montana State won the Big Sky title was 1984, when it went on to win the NCAA Division I-AA championship.
Compson completed 13 of 17 passes for 357 yards in 2 1/2 quarters, helping the Bobcats (7-3, 5-2) build a 52-21 halftime lead.
Lathian Tyler of Montana State rushed for 117 yards in 13 carries and a four-yard touchdown.
The Bobcats had their highest scoring total since a 70-37 victory over Northern Arizona in 1990.
Weber State 27, Eastern Washington 23--Chris Wallace threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to John Fassel with 2:24 left and the Wildcats ended a five-game losing streak at Ogden, Utah.
Morgan Welch rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns for Weber State (6-5, 4-4).
The Eagles (5-5, 4-4) took a 23-20 lead with 6:00 left on Mike MacKenzie’s second touchdown run of the game, from three yards. The score was set up on a 57-yard punt return by Bashir Levingston.
MacKenzie rushed for 121 yards in 32 carries.
Scott Shields kicked a 55-yard field goal with 14 seconds left in the first half to give the Wildcats an 11-10 lead.
