Packers Return to Big Time

There’s nothing wrong with the Green Bay Packers that Brett Favre, Reggie White and the New York Giants couldn’t fix.

Favre became the second-fastest quarterback to throw 200 career touchdown passes and reach the 25,000 yards, while White had two sacks in helping limit the Giants to a season-low 127 yards in a 37-3 victory on Sunday.

“We know we can play like this every game when we put it together,” said Favre, who completed 21 of 33 passes for 267 yards and had his job made easier by the Packers getting a season-high 169 yards rushing.

The impressive performance came only six days after the Packers (7-3) were beaten by Pittsburgh, their third loss in five games.

Favre threw two touchdown passes to backup tight end Tyrone Davis as the Packers gained 433 yards and scored on seven of nine offensive series in one stretch.

Green Bay had five sacks in handing the Giants (3-7) their third straight loss.

“This is definitely something we needed,” said White, whose sacks gave him 14, the most he has had in a season since joining Green Bay in 1993.

Ryan Longwell kicked field goals of 39, 24 and 31 yards and the Packers got one touchdown each from Darick Holmes (111 yards in 27 carries) and William Henderson.

Holmes, obtained in an early-season trade from Buffalo, is the fourth player to get significant playing time at tailback for the Packers, who have lost Dorsey Levens and Travis Jervey to injuries. The other tailback, Raymont Harris, had 33 yards in 10 carries.
