* CAL STATE FULLERTON (12-16 in 1997-98) AT KANSAS STATE (1-0), 6 p.m.--The Titans open their season against a Kansas State team with three starters returning from a squad that was seventh in the Big 12 Conference last year. Manny Dies, a 6-foot-9 power forward, averaged 15.7 points and is regarded as one of the Big 12’s top players. Fullerton’s Ike Harmon, a 6-7 junior forward and top returning scorer who averaged 15.3 points and 6.4 rebounds last season, sprained his left ankle in practice Saturday and is considered questionable. Harmon was 13th in the Big West in scoring and 11th in rebounding. Mark Richardson returns for his senior season and appears improved over a year ago when he averaged 5.4 points a game. Titan Coach Bob Hawking was an assistant to Kansas State Coach Tom Asbury at Pepperdine and Hawking’s son, Butch, is an assistant under Asbury this season. The Wildcats opened with an 83-60 win over St. Mary’s.
