The improving Flames, who finished a six-game homestand with a 3-3 record, thoroughly outplayed the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions.

AROUND THE LEAGUE / Neely Gives Up on Comeback

Cam Neely, citing the same pain in his right hip that forced him to retire in 1996, called off his comeback attempt with the Boston Bruins.

Neely made the decision after an uncomfortable 30-minute skate.

“I know how I’m feeling now, I know how I felt yesterday and I know how I don’t want to feel,” the 33-year-old Neely said. “I’m young, and I don’t want to be struggling at 45 to be getting around.”

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Jon Klemm will be out for three to four months because of a knee injury, team officials said. Klemm injured his left knee during the Avalanche’s 2-1 victory over Vancouver on Sunday night.
