Long Beach State, which won only one road game last season, equaled that number with a 98-92 overtime victory over Loyola Marymount at Loyola.

The 49ers (1-1) overcame a 14-point second-half deficit to send the game into overtime when reserve forward D’Cean Bryant made a three-point shot from beyond the top of the key with 1.9 seconds left to play.

Three seconds into overtime, Long Beach guard Remel Lloyd made a free throw for the 49ers, who had not led for the final 32 minutes of regulation. They never trailed again.

“I’m happy that our kids refused to lose and kept playing and never gave up,” Long Beach Coach Wayne Morgan said. “D’Cean Bryant hit an incredible shot at the end of regulation. He was about 30 feet out at least.”

Lloyd, a transfer from Syracuse, led Long Beach with 25 points, including seven in overtime. Center Mate Milisa had 21 points and nine rebounds and Bryant scored 21 points in 26 minutes.

Loyola (0-1) got a game-high 27 points from Haywood Eaddy, a 5-foot-4 point guard, and 19 from guard Willie Allen.
