Two men who witnessed an assault on a teenager were recognized by the City Council for helping the injured boy. On July 29, about 9:45 p.m., police responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at Kraemer and Yorba Linda boulevards. Brian Johnson, 26, of Placentia, and Melvin Anthony Jr., 27, of Fullerton, stopped and confronted the suspects, who allegedly had thrown rocks at the boy and kicked him. When the suspects fled in two vehicles, Johnson chased one vehicle and flagged down police, while Anthony gave first aid to the boy. The four suspects were arrested and charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Both Johnson and Anthony said they didn’t think twice about helping.
