Caltrans Roadwork Will Limit Antelope Access

Share

Drivers should prepare for fewer lanes on the Antelope Valley Freeway, as Caltrans began a series of closures this weekend from Sand Canyon to Agua Dulce Canyon roads.

The closures are to allow workers to replace bridge slabs at the Sand Canyon Road bridge, Caltrans spokeswoman Margie Tiritilli said.

The six weekend closures will continue through Jan. 17, weather permitting, Tiritilli said. There will be no freeway work during the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s holiday weekends.

The closures will affect portions of the freeway from the Sand Canyon to the Agua Dulce Canyon road exits starting Friday nights and ending Sunday mornings.

Closures will be limited to one side of the freeway (northbound or southbound); and in most cases, only one lane of traffic will be open Saturday mornings. Closures of all lanes will usually be during the middle of the night.

The weekends of Dec. 4 and Jan. 15, only northbound lanes will be affected; just southbound lanes will be affected the weekends of Dec. 11 and Dec. 18; both directions will be affected the weekend of Jan. 8.

Details about the closures will be posted on the freeway, and drivers will be guided to a five-mile detour between Soledad Canyon Road and Agua Dulce Road.
