CSUN Stadium

I was intrigued to note the curiously intended bit of scribbling by Nancy Hill-Holtzman regarding the Cal State Northridge stadium plan, in the Oct. 26 Valley Edition (“Neighbors See Little to Cheer About in CSUN Stadium Plan”).

What was most curious is that this polemic was not in its rightful place: the editorial page. This was not reporting; rather an undisguised diatribe against the unimaginable idea of a major university actually having the gall of desiring its own first-class facility on its own campus--absolutely shocking!

That Hill-Holtzman took the time out of her valuable day to seek out an embarrassingly ill-informed student as a basis for her opinion that a stadium is not necessary is most certainly a definite reason to nominate her for the “most objective reporting of the year” award.

Let me see now; if memory serves me, the university was founded in 1958. There was the very slight possibility that it might grow just a tad over the years. So if I were to buy a home adjacent to the university, I might have to gird my loins, so to speak, for inevitable growth, noise, congestion, ad nauseam. Then again, I could rely on Hill-Holtzman’s student-guru for an informed view of the future.

In the future, it would serve all parties in a just manner if those folks who have axes to grind, would do so in the designated shop.
