Spanich Finds Shot in Time

Share

Adam Spanich didn’t make his first shot until the final 10 minutes of Friday night’s game at Nevada Las Vegas. The senior forward finished with only eight points.

But his timing was impeccable.

After missing a couple of early attempts, Spanich made a three-point shot just as the Trojans were looking flat and UNLV had closed to within three points. He made two more baskets, including another three-pointer, to help USC hold off the Runnin’ Rebels in a 71-68 victory.

“You know Adam Spanich can make shots,” Coach Henry Bibby said. “He didn’t make the first two and I jumped on him about shooting the basketball because that’s what he brings to this team.”

It was Spanich who scored from three-point range to beat No. 2 Arizona at the buzzer last season. Against UNLV, Bibby kept running plays for him and Spanich was either smart enough or brazen enough to stay confident.

“I wanted to get into the flow,” he said of his late-game baskets. “I just let it fly and it went in.”
