2 Suspects Arrested After 2-Hour Police Pursuit

Share

Police in patrol cars and helicopters chased two suspects in a stolen car for almost two hours Monday night before capturing them in the Lincoln Heights district.

The pursuit, which was carried live on television, began shortly after 8 p.m. near the County-USC Medical Center when officers tried to stop a late-model sedan to see if it had been stolen, police said.

The car sped off and police tailed the vehicle at high and low speeds on a serpentine route through the Boyle Heights and Lincoln Heights districts. The car made a number of U-turns, trying to ram a police car at least once and narrowly missing a number of other vehicles, officials said.

The chase ended when the car turned onto a dead-end street. One suspect was arrested in the car and the other was taken into custody after he tried to run. Neither suspect was identified.

A woman who allegedly ran into the street in an effort to block police cars was taken into custody for questioning, investigators said.
