A Mexican restaurant and bar in San Fernando was heavily damaged by a fire that took 75 firefighters more than two hours to extinguish, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells.

“The fire was well involved when the firefighters got there, and there were spaces we couldn’t reach immediately,” Wells said. “It was a deep-seated fire, and it was located in a lot of concealed spaces.”

Leonardo’s restaurant, 1422 San Fernando Road, sustained an estimated $350,000 in structural damage and an additional $50,000 damage to its contents, he said.

Wells added that he did not know if the restaurant was open when the fire broke out at 11:02 p.m. Wednesday, but he said there were no injuries.

Fifteen fire engines and trucks and two ambulances responded to the blaze, Wells said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but the case is being probed by arson investigators.

The restaurant’s owner, Rodolfo Diaz Pinela of Los Angeles, could not be reached for comment.
