Chabot Lost in Waiver Draft

The Kings lost a player in Monday’s waiver draft but, as it turned out, he had already been lost to the team.

On Sept 27, they sent goalie Frederic Chabot to Houston of the International Hockey League, where he was chosen Monday by the Montreal Canadiens, his former employer. Chabot, 30, played five games with Montreal over a four-season period from 1990-94.

He played 12 games with the Kings last season after they signed him as a free agent. Most of his season was spent with Houston of the International Hockey League.

The Kings have 29 players, with a Thursday deadline to get down to 24, but the roster is largely set.

Stephane Fiset and Jamie Storr are the goalies, and nine defensemen remain on the roster. But two of them, Jaroslav Modry and Mark Visheau, are injured. Visheau faces surgery today for a broken thumb.

Fifteen forwards will probably be kept, with left wings Craig Johnson, Matt Johnson, Steve McKenna, Luc Robitaille and Vladimir Tsyplakov; centers Jozef Stumpel, Yanic Perreault and Ian Laperriere, and right wings Russ Courtnall, Sandy Moger and Glen Murray virtual certainties, and centers Ray Ferraro and Nathan LaFayette likely to stay. That leaves rookie Josh Green, along with Roman Vopat, Olli Jokinen and Dan Bylsma to compete for the two other spots.

Forwards Eric Belanger and Jason Morgan are injured.
