Gilbert Arenas, an All-City guard from Grant High, has committed to Arizona.
The 6-foot-4 Arenas, who averaged 29.8 points per game last season, also considered Kansas State and DePaul. He will become teammates with former Bell-Jeff star Ruben Douglas, a freshman at Arizona.
The first day to sign a letter of intent is Nov. 11.
VOLLEYBALL
Niles commits: Calabasas outside hitter Brooke Niles has committed to UC Santa Barbara. An All-Southern Section and Times’ all-region selection last season, Niles chose the Gauchos, ranked No. 4 in the nation, over Notre Dame, Wyoming, Pepperdine and Fresno State.

Pitcher perfect: Jeremy Shields, a left-handed pitcher from College of the Canyons, retired all five batters he faced in an impressive performance Saturday during a junior college all-star game at Loyola Marymount. Shields, who played at Hart High, is considered the region’s top college pitching prospect. He has received recruiting interest from Cal State Fullerton.
Key transfer: John Voita, a junior infielder from Calabasas, has transferred to El Camino Real. Voita is the younger brother of former Granada Hills catcher Sam Voita.
FOR THE RECORD
