Top-Ranked Cypress Women Stay Unbeaten

In a battle between the conference’s top women’s soccer teams, Cypress, the top-ranked team in the state, defeated Orange Coast, 3-1, in an Orange Empire Conference game Tuesday at Cypress College.

Jane Specht scored to break a 1-1 tie in the 42nd minute for Cypress and Lisa Hermen added a goal in the 65th minute for the Chargers (12-0-1, 3-0 in conference).

Apollonia Reyes scored the only goal for Orange Coast (6-4-2, 3-1).

In another conference game:

Irvine Valley 4, Santa Ana 2--Alana McAllister and Jana Mellotti scored second-half goals for visiting Irvine Valley (2-6-1, 1-3) to break a 2-2 halftime tie. Andy Rico and Gina Gomez scored first-half goals for Santa Ana (3-8-2, 0-3).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:

Fullerton 7, Riverside 3--Ken Takaki scored three goals for host Fullerton (5-4-3, 3-1).

Miguel Prado led Riverside (0-11-1, 0-3) with two goals.

Orange Coast 4, Cypress 1--Mughel Alunzi scored two goals and Jose Quintana had a goal and two assists for host Orange Coast (3-4-2, 2-2), which scored all of its goals in the final 14 minutes.

David Guevara scored in the ninth minute for Cypress (2-9, 0-3).
