Trade Group Winners Advance

Seven properties, developers and building managers first honored by the Building Owners and Managers Assn. of Greater Los Angeles have gone on to win a regional competition.

The BOMA awards program, established in 1985, is designed to recognize excellence in office building management, operational efficiency, tenant retention, emergency planning and community impact.

In the various size categories, the local winners of the Southwest Regional Competition in Scottsdale, Ariz., in September were Prentiss Property Ltd.’s Gateway Towers East in Torrance, managed by Rebecca Bronder, and Arco Center, a Cushman & Wakefield property in downtown Los Angeles managed by Diane Williams.

Other categories include renovated property, medical buildings and suburban office parks. The local winners were, respectively, Pacific Corporate Towers in El Segundo, under Willie Blocker’s management; Thatcher Medical Center in Pasadena, a Coreland Pacific property managed by Tracy S. Thomas; and Santa Monica’s MGM Plaza, a Maguire Partners property managed by Sarah Bentley.

The Richard H. Chambers U.S. Court of Appeals, managed by Michael R. Wirtz, took honors among public buildings. The Pasadena building, converted in 1985, was once a winter resort for Easterners.

For the second year in a row, the Bradbury Building, a downtown Los Angeles landmark developed more than a century ago, was honored in the historic buildings category. The restored structure, now managed by Francine Lipsman of Bradbury Associates, was built in 1893.

Winners of the regional BOMA competition can go on to compete at the international level. All winners will be honored at BOMA International’s annual convention next June in Atlanta.
