‘Halloweentown,’ ‘Terror’ and ‘Stranger’ Top Lineup

Movies take center stage on television this weekend as NBC presents the first miniseries of the season, Debbie Reynolds returns to TV in a holiday comedy for the Disney Channel and the animated version of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” makes its network debut.

Lea Thompson heads the cast of NBC’s five-hour miniseries “A Will of Their Own,” Sunday at 8 p.m. on Channel 4. The saga looks at the struggles of women during this century through the eyes of a photographer. Thomas Gibson, Ellen Burstyn and Faye Dunaway also star. The conclusion airs Monday at 9 p.m.

Robert Hays stars in the UPN thriller “30 Years to Life,” at 8 tonight on Channel 13. Hays plays a man who is unjustly accused of killing his father.

Reynolds stars in the new Disney Channel film “Halloweentown,” Saturday at 7 p.m. Reynolds plays an eccentric witch who saves the town from sinister forces with the help of her daughter and grandchildren.

The Movie Channel’s “Twists of Terror,” Saturday at 9 p.m., is a thrillogy of scary tales. Jennifer Rubin and Nick Mancuso star.

ABC’s “The Wonderful World of Disney” presents the 1996 animated musical “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” Sunday at 7 p.m. on Channel 7.

Harry Hamlin and Rebecca Jenkins star in “Stranger in Town,” Sunday at 8 p.m. on Showtime. The family suspense thriller deals with a murder in a small town.

Joanna Kerns and Della Reese star in CBS’ “Emma’s Wish,” Sunday at 9 p.m. on Channel 2. The fantasy finds Kerns a lonely septuagenarian who gets her birthday wish of being 35 years younger.

Sports

Fox presents Games 1 and 2 of the World Series, Saturday and Sunday at 4:30 p.m. on Channel 11.

Famed Chicago Bears running back Walter Payton guests on WB’s “For Your Love,” tonight at 9:30 on Channel 5.

“Trinity,” a new series from “ER” executive producer John Wells, premieres Friday at 9 p.m. on Channel 4. Set in New York, the drama deals with a close-knit Irish American family. Tate Donovan heads the cast.

Bo Derek, Lee Horsley, William Gregory Lee and Brian Gross star in NBC’s new “Wind on Water,” Saturday at 8 p.m. on Channel 4. Set in Hawaii, the drama deals with two brothers who surf and work on a ranch with their mother.

Following at 9 p.m. on NBC is the season premiere of “The Pretender.” At 10 p.m. is the third-season kickoff of “The Profiler.”

“The E! True Hollywood Story,” Sunday at 8 p.m. on E! Entertainment Television, presents a one-hour documentary on the late comic Freddie Prinze.

PBS’ “Masterpiece Theatre” unveils a new adaptation of Emily Bronte’s classic romance “Wuthering Heights,” Sunday at 9 p.m. on KCET-TV Channel 28. Orla Brady and Robert Cavanah play the star-crossed, doomed lovers Cathy and Heathcliff.

A one-hour edition of “Life & Times Tonight,” Friday at 9 p.m. on KCET, covers a town hall meeting addressing the haves and have-nots in Los Angeles.

Martin Sheen, WNBA star Rebecca Lobo, author Luis Rodriguez and singer Celia Cruz are honored on the 12th annual “The Hispanic Heritage Awards,” Saturday at 7 p.m. on Channel 4.

Documentaries

Dyan Cannon hosts Lifetime’s “Intimate Portrait” on Olivia Newton-John, Saturday at 10 p.m. The singer talks about her career and being a breast cancer survivor.

“New School Order,” Sunday at midnight on KCET, focuses on the national dilemma of who should control schools and children’s education.
