Giants Lose Strong Safety
Rodney Young joined the growing list of injured New York Giants’ defensive backs on Thursday when the team said the safety would be out two to three months because of a stress fracture in his lower back.
The fracture was detected last week with a bone scan but doctors thought that Young would be able to play with it. The four-year veteran even practiced with the first team on Wednesday and Coach Jim Fassel said there was a good chance he would have started a strong safety on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
However, Dr. Frank Camissa, a back specialist, advised the Giants that the injury was a little more serious than originally thought and it would be best for Young to rest for a couple of months.

Despite Wednesday’s pickup of Kerry Collins off waivers from the Carolina Panthers, the New Orleans Saints will start veteran Billy Joe Tolliver at quarterback on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.
