Camarillo 17, Oxnard 7--Garrett Valencia connected with Loren Cerny on a 62-yard touchdown pass with 4:34 remaining to preserve the Scorpions’ fourth consecutive victory at home.
Camarillo (4-2, 1-0) drove 60 yards in five plays on its first possession, capped by a 25-yard scoring pass from Valencia to tight end Gary Bryce. Valencia completed seven of 21 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns. He had three passes intercepted.
Oxnard (1-5, 0-1) tied the score, 7-7, 45 seconds before halftime when defensive back James McCowan returned an interception 98 yards for a touchdown. McCowan, a junior, had another interception and also rushed for 83 yards.
Greg Roundtree led all rushers with 114 yards in 22 carries for Camarillo.
