Australian Wins Wheelchair Tennis Title
Australia’s David Hall defeated third-seeded Steve Welch of Austin, Texas, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) to win the men’s open final at the U.S. Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships Sunday at the Racquet Club of Irvine.
Hall, the world’s top-ranked player, won for the second consecutive year and it was his third U.S. Open title in the past four years.
Brian Hanson of Fremont defeated top-seeded Rick Draney of Oceanside, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, to win the men’s quad open final. It was the second consecutive U.S. Open final victory for Hanson over Draney, a six-time U.S. Open champion.
