Rescue Mission Buys Site of Old College
A shuttered private college has been acquired by the Ventura County Rescue Mission, which plans to turn the site into a thrift shop.
The former Watterson College site on Oxnard Boulevard was purchased for $1 million, according to Jerry Roberg, executive director of the Rescue Mission Alliance, which operates a mission on Oxnard’s 6th Street and a thrift store on Harrison Road.
The Harrison Road location will be converted into a used-car donation center and dealership in December when the new thrift store opens in the 23,000-square-foot building.
The alliance, which operates a biblical-based recovery program, provides about 750 meals a day at the mission, and its mobile outreach program serves an additional 150 meals each week.
