From Staff Reports

Bill Murphy, a left-handed pitcher from Riverside Arlington High, made a commitment Tuesday to attend Cal State Northridge.

Last season, Murphy was 7-1 with a 2.53 earned-run average, striking out 53 and allowing 40 hits in 54 innings. Arlington finished 22-7 and made the Southern Section Division II quarterfinals.

Murphy said the reputation of Northridge is strong in Riverside because former Riverside North shortstop Adam Kennedy became a Northridge All-American and was a first-round draft choice of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1997.

“I heard a lot of great things about Northridge,” he said. “They were interested in me and gave me a good ride.”

Matt Bernstein, a former outfielder at Agoura High who played on the Conejo Valley Big League world championship team in August, has made the team at Ohio State as a walk on.

Zeke Morrow, a former Crespi shortstop, is on Michigan’s team as a freshman.

BASKETBALL

Josh Glass, a point guard from Campbell Hall High, has made the University of Miami basketball team as a freshman walk on.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” Glass said. “I came here with the frame of mind that I was going to make it and it eventually happened.”

Glass went to Miami on an academic scholarship. He was an All-Delphic League selection last season.

Chris Williams, a 6-foot-8 center from Notre Dame High, has committed to the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Williams averaged 14.2 points and 8.1 rebounds last season for the Knights.
