The New York Mets are preparing to offer catcher Mike Piazza, the former Dodger and upcoming free agent, a seven-year, $90-million-plus contract to remain at Shea Stadium, sources involved in the negotiations said. That package would make Piazza the major leagues’ highest-paid player, dwarfing the Dodgers’ final offer of six years, $79 million.
