Car Dealerships to Expand, Board Says

Three car dealerships along Van Nuys Boulevard will be either building new facilities or improving existing ones, the Van Nuys Auto Row Business Improvement District Advisory Board announced.

Keyes Toyota will break ground on a 70,000-square-foot structure with rooftop parking Oct. 29, said Larry Abramson, vice president of operations at Keyes Motors Inc.

Abramson, who is also president of the eight-member advisory board, said the new dealership will be built on the existing property and will be expanded to house the executive offices of the Keyes Motors Group. The dealership will be open during construction, he said.

Also, the Center Chrysler Plymouth Jeep and the Century Van Nuys GM Supercenter will expand and renovate its dealerships, Abramson said.

All three projects are due to be completed in late 1999, he said.

The improvements come on the heels of the Los Angeles City Council’s July 1 approval of a business improvement district along a 1.2-mile section on Van Nuys Boulevard, between Magnolia Boulevard and Calvert Street.

Future Van Nuys BID projects include new freeway signs and logos for the area, landscaping, an increase in employee and customer parking, benches and additional trash receptacles, Abramson said.
