A 13-year-old Thousand Oaks boy suffered serious head injuries Thursday afternoon when the bicycle he was riding collided with a pickup truck, authorities said.

The boy, who authorities would not identify, was unconscious when paramedics transported him to Los Robles Regional Medical Center shortly after 5 p.m., Ventura County Fire Capt. Mike Sandwick said.

Because of his age, the hospital would not release the boy’s condition. Dispatchers for the California Highway Patrol described the boy as having serious head injuries.

The youth was riding his bike in his neighborhood when he collided with a Dodge pickup truck at Calle Arroyo and Camino Santo Reyes, officers said.

The cause of the accident was not available, but Sandwick said the truck’s driver was on the scene and distraught.

There had been no arrests Thursday night.

The impact caused the boy to be thrown from his bike.

A doctor who lives in the neighborhood tended to him until paramedics arrived, Sandwick said.

“He was in good hands,” the fire captain said.

The boy’s father came to the scene immediately after the accident and accompanied the child to the hospital.
