A 25-year-old man who police said was shot by two officers after he pointed a gun at them Thursday night was in stable condition at a local hospital, authorities said Friday.

Officers shot Herbert Danillo of Van Nuys in the upper body and left leg at Victory Boulevard west of Vesper Avenue about 8:40 p.m. Thursday, said Officer John Artes, a police spokesman. The officers were not injured.

Artes said Danillo underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition. The name of the hospital he was at was unavailable, police said.

Police said Officers Natalie Ostry and John Constable stopped Danillo because he matched a robbery suspect’s description. After the officers ordered Danillo to put his hands up and turn around, he pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at them, Artes said. The officers, fearing for their lives, shot him, police said.

Danillo was arrested on suspicion of robbery, police said.
