Gonzales’ Runs, Throws Pace Vaqueros’ Win

George Gonzales piled up 445 yards of total offense to lead Rancho Alamitos to a 52-20 victory over Bolsa Grande Friday night at Bolsa Grande.

Gonzales had a hand in six touchdowns for the Vaqueros (4-3, 2-1).

“I go all out all the time,” Gonzales said. “We were just connecting tonight and we had a good game.”

Gonzales, a senior, completed six of 13 passes for 223 yards, connecting with Mike Bertelson for three touchdowns and Sunika Atuatasi for another. Gonzales ran for 113 yards in 14 carries with one touchdown. He also ran back a punt 57 yards for a touchdown at the end of the third quarter.

Bolsa Grande (0-7, 0-4) was held scoreless until Doug Baughman threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Steve Jenks early in the fourth quarter. Baughman completed 16 of 25 passes for 245 yards. Jenks caught eight passes for 123 yards.

Anthony Huizar got Rancho Alamitos on the scoreboard early with a nine-yard run, and finished with 58 yards in 15 carries. The Vaqueros’ running game totaled 201 yards.

The Vaqueros’ offense efficient, scoring on eight of nine possessions in one stretch.

The game was delayed for 16 minutes midway through the third quarter when Bolsa Grande defensive lineman Chris Allanigue was injured after making a tackle on Huizar. He was taken by ambulance to Garden Grove Hospital. A hospital spokesman said no information on his condition was available.

In another Garden Grove League game:

Santiago 59, Garden Grove 0--James Thomas scored one of his two touchdowns on a 70-yard run on the first play of the game for Santiago (5-2, 2-2) at Garden Grove High. Garden Grove is 2-5, 0-3.
