Al MacInnis, known for his 100-mph slap shot, beat the Calgary Flames and the final horn with a change-up.

MacInnis wound up for the big hit, paused, then finessed a shot past Ken Wreggett from the right circle with 1.4 seconds to go as the St. Louis Blues won, 4-3, on Saturday night at St. Louis.

Hockey--The name of goalie Ken Wregget of the Calgary Flames was misspelled in Sunday’s editions.

“I was just trying to slide it by [Wreggett] and somehow it got up in the air,” MacInnis said. “I had my head half-turned when I saw the guys cheering.”

This was one shot that Wreggett knew he should have stopped.

“He waited and waited and waited,” Wreggett said. “I had the air brakes on, but I couldn’t stop or slow down, and he just put it on net.”

The Blues’ sellout streak ended at 13 with a crowd of 19,036, falling about 200 shy of capacity at the Kiel Center. The Blues have sold out 19 of 21 home games.

Colorado 6, Edmonton 4--Claude Lemieux scored twice to reach the 300-goal plateau and Bob Hartley earned his first coaching victory as the Avalanche won at Edmonton.

Patrick Roy stopped 31 shots and improved to 22-6-2 lifetime against the Oilers.

Detroit 3, Montreal 0--Steve Yzerman tipped a bouncing pass from Brendan Shanahan past Jocelyn Thibault on a power play to help lead the Red Wings at Montreal.

Dallas 2, San Jose 1--The Stars’ Pat Verbeek and Jamie Langenbrunner took care of the scoring at Dallas and the Sharks remained winless.

Carolina 3, Ottawa 1--Ray Sheppard and Sami Kapanen scored on the Hurricanes’ first two shots and Arturs Irbe made 27 saves at Kanata, Canada.

New Jersey 3, Boston 1--Chris Terreri, making his first start since returning to the Devils, made 20 saves at East Rutherford, N.J.

Chicago 5, Nashville 4--Tony Amonte scored two goals and Chad Kilger added another in the last five minutes as the Blackhawks rallied at Chicago.

Washington 2, Florida 2--Calle Johansson’s goal 6:21 into the third period at Washington helped the Capitals slow the Panthers (2-1-3), who are off to their best start in the franchise’s short history.

Toronto 6, Pittsburgh 4--Mats Sundin had a goal and three assists as the resurgent Maple Leafs won at Pittsburgh and improved to 5-1-1.

New York Islanders 5, Buffalo 4--Claude Lapointe’s second goal with 40.2 seconds left in regulation at Uniondale, N.Y., gave the Islanders their first victory.

New York Rangers 2, Philadelphia 2--Mike Richter stopped 35 shots and the Rangers held Eric Lindros without a goal for the first time in five games at Philadelphia.
