It Takes Time, but Ice Dogs Rally and Beat Detroit, 4-3
Mark Ferner’s first goal of the season sent the game into overtime and the Ice Dogs came from behind for a 4-3 shootout victory over the Detroit Vipers.
Ice Dog goaltender Sergei Naumov stopped 36 of 39 shots for his first IHL victory.
The victory gave the Ice Dogs (7-2-0) the best overall record in the league.
Goals by Keith Aldridge and John Gruden gave Detroit a 2-0 lead at 2:39 in the second period. Patrik Augusta then scored back-to-back goals, first at 3:58 and again at 15:08 to tie the score.
The Vipers took the lead again at 4:11 in the third period on Mike Prokopec’s third goal of the season.
Ferner then scored at 6:54, forcing the shoot-out during which the Ice Dogs outscored the Vipers, 3-1, before 11,824 at The Palace.
