The winless Washington Redskins flip-flopped quarterbacks again Monday.

Gus Frerotte, who has made just two starts this season, will be replaced by backup Trent Green for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

“We spent the week thinking about it and going through the different scenarios, and right now I just think where our offensive football team is, this is just the best chance to have success,” said Coach Norv Turner, whose Redskins (0-7) are off to their worst start since the 1961 team opened 0-9.

The reeling Redskins couldn’t even survive their open date Sunday without mishap. High-priced free agent defensive tackle Dana Stubblefield injured his right knee walking down some steps at his home.

Stubblefield’s injury didn’t appear to be serious, but he sat out Monday’s practice.

Green went 0-5 as a starter before being replaced by Frerotte in the second-half of the Redskins’ 17-12 loss to the then-winless Philadelphia Eagles in week six.

Rookie linebacker Leonard Little, who faces criminal charges in a fatal car accident, is expected to return to the St. Louis Rams on Wednesday.

“I think it’ll be good for him to get back and get with his teammates and get going again,” Ram Coach Dick Vermeil said.

The Green Bay Packers claimed defensive back Rod Smith off waivers from Carolina. Smith had 19 tackles and an interception in six games for the Panthers. The Packers waived defensive back Juran Bolden to make room for Smith on the 53-man roster.

The Minnesota Vikings have hired Tim Connolly, who served as the Kansas City Chiefs’ chief operating officer for seven years, as general manager. The Vikings (7-0) have been without a general manger all season.
