Ian McEwan Novel Wins Booker Prize

Ian McEwan was awarded the prestigious Booker Prize for fiction. McEwan, 50, received $35,000 at the 1998 awards ceremony in London’s Guildhall for his novel “Amsterdam,” which tells the story of two men embroiled in scandal when the lover of both is photographed in compromising positions with the foreign secretary. The prize, established in 1968, is bestowed each year on what the judges decide is the best novel written in English in Britain or Commonwealth nations.
