Westminster Has Record-Setting Night

Kelly Coburn connected with Tommy Roberts on an 80-yard pass in the third quarter and both players tied school records in Westminster’s 27-6 Golden West League victory over Ocean View Thursday at Westminster.
Coburn completed his 14th touchdown pass of the season to tie Jeff Simons (1974), Bob Elliott (1987) and Manuel Tapia (1995).
Roberts got his eighth touchdown reception to tie Gary Maddocks (1972), David Kurien (1995) and Chris Brewer (1996).
Mike Cope put Westminster (3-5, 1-2) ahead early in the second quarter with a one-yard touchdown run. Vince Laurel added a touchdown later in the quarter on a 12-yard run to give Westminster a 14-0 halftime lead.
Ocean View’s Matt Trice scored in the third quarter on a 62-yard run, but Westminster answered with Robert’s touchdown with four minutes left in the third quarter.
Westminster sealed the victory on Cope’s four-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. He scored five plays after Westminster’s Junior Tau recovered a fumble at Ocean View’s 27-yard line.
