2 Groups Awarded Grants to Aid Youth
Two local groups will receive more than $700,000 in federal funds to help hundreds of youngsters in the Santa Clara Valley, Ventura County Supervisor Kathy Long announced Thursday.
According to Long, Interface Families Services Collaborative will receive $424,538 and Clinicas del Camino Real’s Pro-Youth Partnership Collaborative will receive $298,185. The groups will use the money to provide programs and services to more than 200 at-risk youth and their families.
The programs will focus on education and personal development, gang prevention through social recreation, substance-abuse counseling, mental health assessments and crisis intervention and counseling. They will also include intervention services for abused and molested girls, tutoring, literacy, parenting education and family therapy.
Funding for the program is being provided through the federal Comprehensive Youth Services Act, which required the formation of a local planning council.
As a result, the Board of Supervisors designated the Multi-Agency Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council, which included Supervisors Long and Susan Lacey as well as representatives from the superintendent of county schools, public health services, district attorney’s office and an array of other agencies.
