A Port Hueneme police sergeant was injured while trying to arrest a man who authorities believe was under the influence of angel dust.
Sgt. Ted Snyder struggled to arrest Averry Gene McCoy, 30, of Port Hueneme after being called to the scene of a fight at the Marvin Motel at 645 Port Hueneme Road around 9 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Christopher Graham said Sunday.
While Snyder and two other police officials tried to subdue McCoy, Snyder was pushed to the ground and hit his head on the concrete, Graham said. He was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where he was treated for his injury and released.
McCoy was treated at the same hospital for his condition, which authorities described as being “associated with drug use.” He was later taken to County Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of felony injury to an officer and being under the influence of PCP, Graham said.
