Celebration Kicks Off Sunday Hours for Library

Share

City officials will conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 13 to celebrate the new Sunday hours at the Burggenmeyer Library.

The opening of the library on Sundays is the result of a library tax measure which garnered 66.84% of the vote in the April 14 election. The money generated by the measure is also financing widespread restructuring of the library and new children’s programs.

At Sunday’s ceremony, Mayor Francisco Alonso will also be honored for donating his entire council pay--some $200 a month to the library. Before joining the council, Alonso was a longtime library board member and outspoken advocate of expanding its service.
