Irvine Telemarketer Agrees to Guilty Plea
- Share via
An Irvine telemarketer has agreed to plead guilty Monday to allegations that he disobeyed a court order stemming from a prior telemarketing fraud case. Lonny Remmers signed an agreement Friday to plead guilty to violating a 1996 order by U.S. District Judge Linda H. McLaughlin and to accept a sentence of 41 to 51 months in prison. The Federal Trade Commission alleged that Remmers defied the judge’s order that blocked him from the telemarketing industry unless he first posted a bond of $150,000 and notified the agency. Gregg Shapiro, a special assistant U.S. attorney, said Remmers has been in custody for three months, which will be counted toward his sentence. A final sentencing hearing before McLaughlin is expected later this year.
