County to Send Safety Tips to Pool Owners

Share

In a safety effort, the Orange County Fire Authority, in cooperation with the county assessor’s office, has created a database listing 108,000 pools and spas countywide, Fire Capt. Scott Brown said Friday. The database will be used to distribute drowning-prevention information to every pool owner in Orange County, and will be updated annually.

The database contains information including location, size, and type of pool or spa, and names its owners and users.

A mini-task force of county health-care officials, Children’s Hospital of Orange County and a Fire Authority representative will fine-tune the database and find more uses for it. “We’re going to take [pool safety] to a new level,” Brown said.

The $6,000 cost of the database was funded by private contributions from the CHOC Foundation, PacifiCare, Allstate Insurance and the Fire Authority, Brown said.

“It’s a symbol of our long-term commitment to pool safety in the community,” Brown said.
