Open House Today at Casa Romantica
A free open house is scheduled today at Casa Romantica, the former home of city founder Ole Hanson and a source of controversy over what its future should include.
Several City Council candidates who are in favor of using the city-owned mansion as a center for cultural, art and wedding events are expected at the open house, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The City Council and Redevelopment Agency, after years of debate over the historic building, recently approved a deal to turn the home into a restaurant.
The panels agreed to leave several rooms open for cultural and public use.
Controversy remains, and many of the 15 candidates seeking three open council seats in the November election are running on their opposition to the restaurant and other proposed developments in the city.
The Casa Romantica is at 415 Avenida Granada.
