A Newbury Park man and his girlfriend have been arrested on suspicion of stealing more than $180,000 from the man’s elderly grandfather over a two-year period, deputies said Friday.
Robert Matueski, 44, and Deborah King, 41, remained jailed Friday night, each in lieu of $5,000 bail on suspicion of embezzlement and grand theft. King was also being held on suspicion of forgery, a deputy at the jail said.
The two were arrested Friday after investigators learned that the bank accounts of King’s grandfather had been drained and that a loan had been taken out on his house without his knowledge, Sheriff’s Detective Dan Place said.
The grandfather’s checks and credit cards also had been stolen, police said.
