Does Huntington Really Need Lab?

Share

* On Aug. 20 you had a story about Huntington Beach planning on spending several hundred thousand dollars on building its own DNA analysis laboratory.

We have lived in Huntington Beach for 23 years; we moved here because it was a relatively low crime area. What has happened that the Police Department feels it needs its own DNA laboratory? How many murders are there a year? How many rapes? If crime has grown to the point where a DNA lab is necessary, perhaps we should start looking for a safer place to live. Or is it just an ego trip for the Police Department and the City Council?

If it’s an ego trip, then we must stand up and tell our City Council it costs too much money. If it is because crime has reached such a high level, let us know. Property is selling very well right now, but if the word gets out about the high crime rate, then sales will drop.
