Cooling Trend May Be on the Horizon
Mostly sunny skies and seasonably warm weather are expected today and Tuesday, but a slight cooling trend will take effect by midweek, forecasters said.
Following two days of highs in the upper 80s to mid-90s, afternoon temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-80s on Wednesday and Thursday, said Jeff House of WeatherData Inc., which provides forecast information to The Times.
House said the cooling trend is attributable to a trough, which is expected to set up over the West Coast as the current high-pressure system moves east.
“That trough will draw cool ocean air into the Valley, along with low clouds and fog in the morning,” House said.
Beginning Friday, the trough is expected to be replaced by another high-pressure system, bringing temperatures back up to the upper 80s to low 90s. Morning lows through Friday are expected to range from the upper 50s to low 60s.
Today, the hottest spot in the Valley is expected to be Chatsworth, which forecasters say should reach 94. Slightly cooler temperatures are forecast for Woodland Hills, Van Nuys and Burbank. Similar temperatures are forecast for Tuesday.
