Marguerite F. Lang, a retired accountant and active volunteer in Port Hueneme, died Wednesday after a lengthy illness. She was 76.

Lang was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Chicago and attended grade school and high school there. She met her husband, George Lang, in a Chicago bowling alley and the couple married in 1945, Lang’s family said.

In 1951, the couple moved to Burbank to live in warmer weather. Lang worked for many years as an accountant before retiring in 1985 and moving with her family to Port Hueneme.

Lang organized a newsletter for Port Hueneme’s chapter of American Assn. of Retired Persons, and she was the treasurer for both Hueneme Seniors, a social group, and the Ventura County Council on Aging, her family said.

“She loved to be a volunteer. She was very active with seniors and it was very important to her,” said Georgia Pond, Lang’s daughter.

Lang attended a Baptist church in Oxnard and in her free time she enjoyed taking cruises. Her family said she sailed to dozens of ports, including some in Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean and South America.
