Donated Teddy Bears Join Police Squad

Police officers will be driving around with stuffed animals in their squad cars as part of the Teddy Bear Roundup, which gives the toys to children in need.
Customers of Macy’s department stores donated about 150 bears for distribution to children in traumatic situations. The bears were delivered to the department Thursday.
“We hope [the bears put] a smile on their faces,” police spokesman Steve Despenes said. “We hope it makes the children feel at ease. It’s a sign of security.”
Proceeds from the event, in which customers bought the bears and then donated the foot-tall toys to the Police Department, will go to the Santa Ana Boys and Girls Clubs.
