Airport Parking Squeeze Prompts Traveler Advisory

Travelers flying out of John Wayne Airport today might want to allow extra time for parking, airport officials said Thursday. About 300 parking spaces directly next to the airport’s main terminal are no longer available.
Beginning this morning, officials said, Lot B2 across the street from the terminal is closed to accommodate its eventual expansion.
“We are advising people to allow at least an hour to find a parking place and get to their departure gates,” airport spokeswoman Kathleen Campini Chambers said.
Chambers encouraged travelers to make use of the parking spaces available in the off-airport lots on Main Street. To accommodate increased parking there, she said, additional shuttles will be operating between the lots and the terminal.
About 1,000 new parking spaces within walking distance of the terminal are expected to be available by Thanksgiving, bringing the total number to 4,573. The expansion of the East Parking Structure, expected to be completed in the spring, will provide another 1,962 spaces, Chambers said.
