Coyotes Rally to Tie, 3-3

After giving up a short-handed goal, then generating nothing on four power plays for two periods, the Phoenix Coyotes got man-advantage goals from Oleg Tverdovsky and Rick Tocchet in the third period of a 3-3 tie with the Kings before 5,854.

The Kings held a 3-1 lead on goals by Russ Courtnall, Glen Murray and Philippe and had effectively killed off Phoenix power plays for two periods.

The Coyotes signed left winger Keith Tkachuk to a one-year contract extension, through the 2000-2001 season, ending a holdout by their captain. Tkachuk had two years remaining on his contract, but refused to report until Phoenix renegotiated his deal. . . . Kings’ rookie defenseman Mark Visheau drew a 10-minute misconduct penalty in the first period for fighting with Phoenix’s Sean Gagnon. That makes Visheau three for three--three games, three fights--in his attempt to make the club. . . . . . . The Kings travel to Phoenix for a game tonight. . . . Sunday’s practice at the Forum at 1 p.m. is open to season ticket-holders, and individual game tickets also go on sale. Non-season ticket holders can attend practice for $5, with proceeds going to charity.
