Camarillo Students Win Knowledge Bowl

A month of competition culminated this week when Adolfo Camarillo High School students won the Knowledge Bowl.

The team beat 11 other county high schools Wednesday in an annual competition that tests students’ smarts on everything from geometry to MTV.

“It’s a little bit hard to study for the Knowledge Bowl because the questions aren’t based on anything in particular,” said Rebecca Pecsok, the event’s organizer.

Students answer hundreds of questions over four Wednesdays in March. Questions this year included “What is the title of John Steinbeck’s novel about a young boy’s love for his horse?” (“The Red Pony”) and “What singer recently won five Grammys?” (Lauryn Hill)

More than 75 students from both public and private high schools buzzed in during the round robin-style quiz events.

Started more than 25 years ago, the Knowledge Bowl is sponsored by the American Assn. of University Women.

Camarillo students brought home the rotating trophy and each team member received an individual trophy. Simi Valley High School came in second and Buena High School in Ventura placed third.
