Public Hearing Scheduled on Improvement District
Creation of a Reseda Business Improvement District has been put on hold pending an April 27 public hearing.
The effort to provide a program to shore up neighborhood businesses and improve safety in order to attract trade has been spearheaded by City Councilwoman Laura Chick.
“This is just one piece of the whole in making Reseda a thriving business district,” Chick said at a City Council meeting this week.
The district would be funded by taxing about 740 area merchants.
Business owners at the council meeting were divided, with some saying they were not adequately informed about how their business would be affected.
“I stand to be billed $3,000 per year,” said Mike Kerrigan of Mike’s Transmissions. “I still don’t understand the billing.”
But Ann Kinsel, executive director of the Reseda Chamber of Commerce for 15 years, urged council members to approve the district.
“We want to put the unity back into the community,” she said.
