Norm Stewart insisted Thursday it was his idea to resign after 32 seasons as Missouri coach. Stewart, 64, said the inspiration came during a game at Kansas in January and a familiar chant from Jayhawk fans, “Sit down, Norm!” took on a different meaning. “I said to myself that day, ‘I think I will,’ ” said Stewart, who also coached six seasons at Northern Iowa and is the NCAA’s ninth-winningest coach with 731 victories (against 375 losses). . . . Coaches were named at Holy Cross (Ralph Willard, previously at Pittsburgh), North Carolina Greensboro (Fran McCaffery, previously an assistant at Notre Dame), Vanderbilt (Kevin Stallings, previously at Illinois State), Wisconsin Milwaukee (William “Bo” Ryan, previously at Division III Wisconsin Platteville.
