Joe Murphy scored two goals to spark a four-goal first period and Steve Shields made 18 saves as the San Jose Sharks routed the Vancouver Canucks, 7-0, Friday night at Vancouver, Canada.
Five other players scored as the Sharks set a team record for largest margin of victory. Jeff Friesen, Owen Nolan, Patrick Marleau, Marco Sturm and recently acquired Vincent Damphousse also beat Vancouver goalie Garth Snow, who gave up seven goals on 17 shots before being replaced by Kevin Weekes at the start of the third period.
Shields got his third shutout of the season, his second against the Canucks. Shields has played all four of San Jose’s games against Vancouver this year and has given up a total of four goals while recording three wins and a tie.

The Red Wings, helped by early Blackhawk penalties, opened up a 5-1 lead after two periods.
Clark, Vyacheslav Kozlov, Larry Murphy, Martin Lapointe and Brendan Shanahan scored for Detroit.
