Han Wins 5th Badminton Title
Top-seeded Kevin Han won his third consecutive title at the U.S. National Badminton Championships Sunday at the Orange County Badminton Club in Orange.
Han, of Colorado Springs, Colo., defeated Andy Chong of Marblehead, Maine, 15-12, 15-5, in men’s singles. It’s Han’s fifth national title.
In the women’s singles championship, Yeping Tang of Germantown, Md., lost the first game to Colorado Springs’ Cindy Shi, 5-11, but rallied to win the next two, 11-9, 13-10, for the title. This is Tang’s second consecutive title and third overall.
Han teamed with Alex Liang of El Monte to win the men’s doubles championship. They beat Howard Bach and Mark Manha, both of Colorado Springs, 11-15, 15-13, 15-5.
In women’s doubles, Shi and Tang teamed to defeat Janis Tan of Baldwin Park and Elie Wu of Monterey Park, 4-15, 15-7, 15-6. Chong and Tang won the mixed doubles title, beating Manha and Shi, 15-8, 15-9.
