The city is considering exercising its authority to demand use of a driveway that would give trucks access to a downtown development project. Officials had been negotiating with Brea Gateway Center, which owns the driveway on the southwest corner of Birch Street and Brea Boulevard, but the two sides have not yet agreed on a price or other terms for the access deal.

The driveway is needed for trucks to deliver goods and pick up trash in the development, which is aimed at revitalizing the downtown area; the project features specialty stores and eateries. The city is considering gaining access to the property using its power of eminent domain. The issue will be discussed at a public hearing at 7 tonight at 1 Civic Center Circle. Information: (714) 671-4421.
